Seeking fairness for taxpayers

The campaign wishes to see better treatment for UK taxpayers, in particular small businesses and individuals.

Unfortunately, when tax authorities undermine the rule of law, this leads to taxpayers becoming victims of taxing authorities’ abuse.

We want people to pay the tax that is due, and we want to help HMRC collect what is due. We don’t like tax avoiders either. But we also don’t like innocent people and firms being put through the mill unjustly.

Reform must ensure the tax authorities maintain strong powers to enforce and administer the tax law, but be subject to stronger oversight, transparency and accountability, with checks and balances aligned with the rule of law.
